Show Promising TRIP TO ELY IS PROFITABLE Beaver County Delegation Well Received Promised Prom-ised Co-Operation IT IS NOW VP TO BEAVER COl'N- TV TO MAKE GOOD AM) CONNECT ROADS The delegation of Milford business busi-ness men and commissioners of Beaver county that made the trip to Ely, Nevada, last Sunday in the in-' in-' terest of good roads returned Tuesday. Tues-day. That the trip was worth while and successful is the testimony of each of the party. Two machines, Heber Hanks' car and a car from the Larson garage, carried the delegation. delega-tion. The party was composed of Heber Hanks, Hal. Stephens, Harry Larson, Tom Martin, I. L. Quirk and County Commissioners Griffiths and White. The road is a good one excepting for a distance of twenty miles through Pine Flat and other flat desert des-ert valleys in Beaver and Millard counties of Utah. "After crossing the Nevada state line the road is a veritable boulevard," said Mr. Stephens. "We were treated splendidly splen-didly by the people of Ely and all along the way and were promised the most hearty co-operation. It is simply up to the counties of Utah to meet the people of Nevada in what the latter have already done. They have excellent roads and we should connect with them as rapidly as possible." The members of the Beaver county coun-ty delegation spoke eloquently of the prosperity of Ely and surrounding country. The mining interests there are great. In the mining section immediately im-mediately surrounding Ely there are probably ten thousand inhabitants inhabit-ants and the great Copper Mine, which is a replica of the great Bingham Bing-ham copper property inverted, is a wonderful producer. Instead of working around terraces on a mountain moun-tain side the Ely miners are working around the sides of a deep saucer shaped hole in the ground. The wonderful natural cave five miles off the road this side of Baker the party did not take time lo explore. ex-plore. The Beaver county delegation had the privilege of meeting with the County Commissioners of White Pine county, Nevada, at Ely and there telling them what Beaver county intends to do and asking the co-operation of the Nevada officials and citizens. The party was also given a ride about the city and surrounding sur-rounding country. The trip was made without accident acci-dent and it is hoped and expected that the visit will result in much good to Beaver county. The Sunset Highway can easily be made the best route from California through Nevada Ne-vada and Utah to Salt Lake City. |
