Show NewL.D.S.Chapel Dedicated Sunday At Special Service Milford's new $33,000 L. D. S. ward chapel and church building were formally dedicated Sunday afternoon with impressive services servic-es and a large number of local and out-of-town people in attendance. The building, a distinct asset to Milford and Beaver county, was constructed in 1932-3.3 under extremely ex-tremely unfavorable circumstances circumstanc-es but the building was near enough completed in late 1933 to permit its use for meeting purposes. pur-poses. Since then the efforts of ward officials and workers have been devoted to giving the building build-ing its final touches in the way of equipment and decoration, all the while reducing the indebtedness and awaiting the day when the last dollar would be paid off and dedication could take place. Tho dedicatory services were held beginning at 2 o'clock as one of the sessions of the Beaver stalip quarterly conference sessions. ses-sions. Bishop Alvin H. Baker of the Milford ward was in charge I and the dedicatory talk and prayer pray-er were given by Elder John H. Taylor, one of the presidents of the first quorum of seventy in the general church organization. A feature of the services was the presence of two former bishops of the local ward, William A. Miller of Beaver, now county clerk, and M. Joy Christensen, now living at j Las Vegas, Nevada, hoth of whom! spoke at the services. The onlyj sad note of the otherwise happy j j occasion was the absence of the j , late E. H. Bird, who served two ' different times as bishop of the Milford ward and under whose j second administration the new : building was planned and virtual-, virtual-, ly completed, with Dr. Charles R. Parrish, now of, Los Angeles, serving as chairman of the touild- j ing committee. ; ' Stake President S.Taylor Fams-I worth, Bishop Baker and Mrs. Jay I Nelson, president of the Milford j ward Relief society, also spoke and commended the people of Mil-' ford on what had been accomplish- i ed. Musical numbers for the dedicatory dedi-catory services included congregational congre-gational and choir numhers under the direction of Vance Fisher and a vocal solo, "Bless This House", by Ralph Thompson. One of the j choir numlbers was the hymn, "Hosanna!," written for the dedi-! cation of the Salt Lake temple. ; The opening prayer was offered by Bishop Charles K. Jameson of Minersville and the benediction ; was by Carlos Murdock of Beaver. lOther sessions of the confer-1 ence included a priesthood meet-! ing Saturday evening at which j Elder Taylor and Elder C. Arvill Stott of Salt Lake City, member of the church welfare committee, were the principal speakers. Others who addressed the large ! gathering were Theodore Bohn, i member of the stake presidency, and Lawrence and Dennis White, all of Beaver. The priesthood meeting was featured by numbers i given by the Priesthood Quartet and congregational singing. The Sunday morning session ! was devoted largely to routine conference activities, including the presentation of general and stake authorities of the church by Stake Clerk J. Albert Muir, the audience duly voting to sustain them s presented. Speakers at this meeting, meet-ing, which was conducted by President Farnsworth, included the visiting general authorities, Elders Taylor and Stott, and W. W. Farrer and Elder Bohn of the stake presidency. The invocation at this session was offered by Joseph L. Jackson and the benediction bene-diction by Law-rence Patterson, both of Beaver. Mrs. Macel R. iHorton of Milford gave a violin olo which was much enjoyed. The Sunday evening meeting was devoted to Mutual Improvement Improve-ment association activities. |
