Show MBS. A. E. BUNG'S F U N E R A L YESTERDAY The funeral of Mrs Ann Emmett Browning was held yesterday afternoon after-noon in tho Second ward meeting house, with Elder E. J. Jones presid ing The speakers were John H. Ellis. El-lis. John McQuarrie. President L W. Shurtliff, Prot. E. S. Hinckley and Elder El-der Jones. The funeral service was a beautiful tribute to one who had braved the perils per-ils of pioneering a new country for the sake of her religion, who had raised a larre and respected family, and who had always been a good neighbor and a strong member of her church. Each speaker brought out traits of her character which showed the real worth of such a woman to the community. Mrs Browning was among the first to join the Latter-Day Saints church in England. She walked every' foot of the way from Missouri to Salt Lake, and waded every stream. She was a member of a handcart company and pushed a cart across the plains in her company. A few days before reaching Salt Lake food became so scarce in this company that its' members were placed on rations of a tablespoonful of flour for each meal. They mixed this with water and drank it. She was married March 20, 185S. to Jonathan Browning by Brigham Young Her surviving five children all have large families. They have always resided within two blocks distance of their mother's home, a testimonial to her successful efforts in keeping her family together and teaching them to be responsible citizens. Mrs Browning was ever a favorite figure at parties of old folks, having such a splendid memory- that her stories stor-ies of early days were listened to with eagerness. She had also a wonderfully wonderful-ly retentive mind and could recite poet po-et rv for hours. The musical part of the funeral service serv-ice was beautifully rendered Mrs Irma B Dean of Salt Lake, sang two solos, "Sweet Spirit. Hear My Prayer" and "Softly and Tenderly. Jesus is Calling." Miss Marion Browning sang "Consolation" and Miss O'Etta Browning Brown-ing sang "I Need Thee Every Hour." The grave in Ogden city cemetery was dedicated by Elder E J. Jones. The pallbearers were grandsons of the deceased. Arch, Dr. E. W., Dr. A. A., Miles and George Browning and Jonathan Jona-than Wallace. oo |
