Show Early Pioneer Passes Away Oscar Barton, Black Hawk Indian War Veteran Dies at Age of 84 Years. Oscar Barton, one of' the early settlers cf this city, died at tha family residence Tuesday from kidney disorders and other ailments ail-ments incident to old age. Mr. Barton, son . of John and Susannah Wilkinson Barton, was born October 29, 1847 in Pottowat-amie Pottowat-amie County, Iowa. He came to Utah with his parents in 1848, the family locating at Bountiful. He came to Mt. Pleasant in 1861 and was active in church and civic affairs. He was married to Em-meline Em-meline Seely in this city, October, Octo-ber, 30, 1868. This couple celebrated the 63 ?nniversary of their marriage last October. At the time of his death they had been married longer than any ether couple in this city. Mr. Barton served as first counselor- to Bishop Jefferson Tidwell at Indianola from 1878 to 1883. He was a Black Hawk Indian War veteran. Surviving are his widow and three children: W. o. Barton. Stirling, Alberta Canada; Mrs". Leonard Frandsen, and J. C. Barton. Bar-ton. ML Pleasant; also one brother, bro-ther, S. A. Barton of Mt. Pleasant. Funeral services will be held from the North ward chapel Saturday Sat-urday at 2 p. m. with Bishop Henry P. Olson in charge. |
