AN EVENTFUL LIFE CLOSED Death of Orin Hatch Youngest Mem Member Member Member ber of Mormon Battalion at Woods Cross Special to The rhe Herald Woods Cross Sept 8 Orrin Hatch one of Davis earliest settlers died at his home here her today at after kIter an Illness which confined him to his bed for several months When the end nd came he lie was surrounded by all the members of his family except se residing in Big Horn Basin Wyo V o Mr Hatch has been a pioneer during the earlier carlier settling of Utah During his very active career in ariy arb days he was called to make settlements in Arizona Nevada and elsewhere but during all the time tuna he maintained a home in Davis county and his death occurred in the house that has sheltered himself and family Camil for years Mr Hatch was born in Farmersville I N Y May Mu 0 ii 1830 1520 He was as the son aon on of Ira F and Wel tInt tha Blackford Hatch With his parents he lie removed from New York to Illinois and settled at Nauvoo In 1513 1813 Three years cars later he lie moved moed with the Mormon people to Council Bluffs on hc he com corn of their western we tern exodus It was while here in July ISm 1816 that Mr Hatch then in his year ear enlisted in the Mormon lormon battalion To him belongs the honor of having been the th youngest member of that body bod he having been a few months younger than Lot Smith With the battalion he lie marched to California where he was mustered out of service in Iii July 1547 He was with the party In California when gold was first discovered the following spring and later In 84 he lie came to Utah The year fol lowing he went to Council Bluffs and as in bringing brin his father and to Utah and nd In 1849 1819 he located In Boun He was twice married nd was the father of children childr n nine teen of whom with his two wives sur vive him Thirteen children were born to his first wife and his death is the tile first break in that family circle the th youngest child of which Is 27 years of age October 10 1005 Mr oIl and Mrs Hatch celebrated their golden anniversary and most of their children were wre present Mr Hatch leaves grandchildren IS 18 great grandchildren and a total membership In his family of His brother R S Hatch resides In N M 11 and another brother Ephraim Hatch Is a resident of Bountiful Mr Hatch has won for himself the good will and ad of the community In which he has so long resided The funeral announcement cannot be made until word has been received from his children in III Wyoming r J
