Show - .I ; - Another Fight At Salt Lake B. Y. C. Basketball Term Will Go to University Uni-versity after Scalps of Provoites. The final game for the championship cham-pionship of the State Basketball league will be plnyed in the University Uni-versity of Utah gymnasium next Saturday nfternoon at 3:30 o'clock between the B. Y. U. team of Provo and the B. Y. 0. team of Logan" says the Intermountain Republican. These two teams have gone through the State league season with only one defeat de-feat each, Provo having established establish-ed its right to a fight for the title by defeating the L. D. S. team at Provo Friday night by a score of 30 to 19.. It was first thought that the two teams would battle for the championship in the Y. M. 0. A. gymnasium, but it was found that the capacity of this place is not sufficient for the number of specta tors expected by the managers of the two teams. Students of each -school will attend the game almost al-most to a man, and it is believed that fully l.OOp people will be present when the game is started The Y. M. C. A. gymnasium will accommodate only about 500 spectators, spec-tators, while inorc than 80J),can lie provided for in the gymnasium at the University. Dope Favors Logan Team. A Provo defeated Logan at homo early in the season, and a few weeks later the Logan team turned turn-ed the samo trick when they got the Provoites up in Cache county. It was then decided that the final game would bo played on ncutu-ral ncutu-ral ground. The two teams aro about evenly matched as is possible pos-sible in basketball and will put up a. great struggle for the cham pionship o fthe league. Dope has it that Loganitcs will carry off the plum, but this will not be determined de-termined until about 5:30 o'clock next Saturday evening. The Provo team is not so strong as it was during the early stages of the season, while the Loganitcs have steadily improved. If the championship game had been played nt the start, it is almost certain that the Provo quintet would have been successful, but now it is a toss-up, with the advantage ad-vantage leaning toward Logan. Athletic Director Brown of the Y. 51. 0. A., had laid plans for a real championship game between his team and the winner of the Provo-Logan battle. This, however, how-ever, will not be the case, Provo lias defeated the locals twice this season, while Brown's men liavc done the same thing with Logan, Both athletie councils at Provo and Logan have decided not to play the Y 51. C. A. for the basket ball championship of the state. The team winning Saturday's game will rightly bo called the champions of the State Basketball Basket-ball league, but can hardly lay claim to that title unless Provo wins. Provo has defeated the local lo-cal team twice and would thus have a clear bill in case the Loganitcs Lo-ganitcs go down to defeat. But, on the other hand, Logan could not dub themselves champions of Utah without another and final clash with the local five. . The Y. 51. C. A. team at present is considered con-sidered the strongest in the state without question, but will not have a chance to establesh this fact. |
