Show NO PRIZE FIGHTS IH SALT LUKE SALT LAKE CITY, Jan.1 10. The city commissioners this morning sounded tho death knell of prize flght: ing in Salt Lake City. By unanimous vote the city's new legislative body declared 'Itself td he unequivocally and unalterably opposed, oppos-ed, to prize ring encounters and the chief of police will be instructed to see that fights, which have .been a disgrace to the city, are no "longer staged. The action of the commission was precipitated at the regular meeting this morning when the communication communica-tion of Chief B. F. Grant relative to the bout between Reagan and Germain, Ger-main, came up for final disposition. On motion, this communication was ordered filed. "This matter has been disposed of, but I should like to know what Is to be the policy In the future," said Commissioner H. W Lawrence. "Are wo going lo stop these affairs, or not?" Mayor S. C Park expressed an opinion that, inasmuch as the laws of the state permitted boxing contests, con-tests, that tho commission could do nothing to stop bona-flde boxing contests. con-tests. Following discussion as to what constituted a prize fight, Commissioner Com-missioner Lawrence's motion was put to vote. Roll call ghowed all voting in favor of tho motion. As commissioner of public safety, Mr. Park probably will notify 'Chief of Police7 Grant of the action of the commission. |
