Show THE HUNT INGEST CASE Adjournment of Court to Enable Witnesses Wit-nesses to Bo Subpoenaed Loa Nov 11In the Hunt Incest caso further damaging testimony against the defendant was loUaj offered until the beginning of the afternoon session of court when the Stale rested It was thereupon explained by Mr Bean counsel Ipr tho defense that ho had been appointed appoint-ed by the court only a fow days ago to rcnresont the defendant and had not suf ficient time to properly look Into and In Vcstlcato Ihq case and that now ho ivan In i tho embarrassing predicament of being at tho threshold of opening the dofcnbo with some four or five very Important witnesses absent and not subpoenaed thin materiality of their testimony and the nossesblon by thorn of the knowledge they have and which Is sadly needed on behalf of the defense ho was not aware of until today Thin defendant Is i Impecunious and already had ono witnesses subpoenaed at tho cxpciiJiO of the State but those are not among them Ho Is unable to and has no moans of either bringing them or compelling com-pelling them to appear In court and Mr Bean was therefore constrained to ask tIm court for a further order permitting the uubpoenaelng of these additional witnesses for the defense at the Slates expense and to hold the trial of this case open until they could arrive here which oven by using noveral relays of horses and driving all night could not bo before 10 oclock tomorrow morning If that soon ns they live at Giles about seventy miles distant from hero Owing to tho Importance Import-ance of tho case and the seriousness of tho charge against the defendant making It the duty of all to haVo as thorough searching and complete a trial as possible possi-ble the Judge stretched the technical rules and granted the order asked for but asked that the defense proceed as far Into their case as possible with the witnesses on hand Mr Chldcslcr thereupon ox tilalned that living at Giles also was ono other Important witness for the State and In view of tIm fact that an officer was going there anyway ho would aok to have him subpoenaed at the same time and that upon her arrival he bo permitted to reopen the States case for the Intro duction of her testimony To this the dc1 fenso objected slating that It would bo unsafe for them to proceed until after tho State had offered all of Its evidence Thereupon an adjournment of court was announced ponding the arrival of the witnesses wit-nesses from Giles The evidence Introduced today was a detailing of numerous incidents when the defendant and his daughter had been seen at camps with but ono bed getting up of mornings out of ono bed etc The defendants de-fendants daughter was frequently requested re-quested to arise In court for Identification Identifica-tion by the witnesses and In dQlng so with her Illegitimate child In her arms and a simple grin on her face seemingly uleascd at tho notoriety she was receiving amid the awful solemnity of the courtroom court-room occasioned by the horrifying story that was being detailed created a scene most sorrowful and sad heartrending and pitiable The Earthquake nt Loa Loa Nov
